Current Position: Associate Professor of Sociology, California State University Channel Islands
Brief Bio: Dr. Sanchez's research examines immigrant homeownership with a particular focus on racial/ethnic and geographic variation in housing tenure. His work also considers the varying contexts experienced by immigrants in traditional (i.e. Los Angeles) and emerging immigrant gateways (i.e. places in the South and Midwest) and how they might influence the immigrant incorporation process. In the classroom, Luis’s teaching emphasizes the importance of data, measurement, and statistical analyses in the systematic study of social phenomena.
Penn State’s Demography Program: I am extremely grateful for the training I received as a dual-degree student in Sociology and Demography. I was able to take advantage of a wide array of course offerings (both substantive and methodological) which helped to prepare me for where I am today as a teacher and scholar. In addition, the various workshops offered exposed me to new skills and techniques that I might not have been exposed to in classes.
