Requesting a Course Substitution

If you would like to substitute a graduate course taken at another university or a Penn State graduate course not listed as part of the Demography curriculum, you must sign-in using your Penn State access account (e.g., abc123@psu.edu) and complete this form. You will be asked to upload a copy of the course syllabus. The form allows you to request up to three course substitions.

If you already received approval for a course substitution from Dr. Stephen Matthews, you simply need to forward that affirmative email exchange to Dr. Molly Martin.

To be approved as a substitution, the alternative course must have sufficient demographic content (e.g., concepts, theories, methods, topics). The syllabus topic and reading lists are the primary evidence for this determination.

Not all courses taught by Penn State Demography faculty members will meet Demography program standards. To better understand, see the following side by side comparison of actual, similar courses where one is demographic and one is not:  Example: Demography vs. nonDemog class
