What do demographers study?

  • Demographers study the determinants and consequences of population composition & processes
  • Demographers study multi-level demographic patterns with multi-level contextual effect designs or spatial modeling, with levels often involving:
    • Macro: nations, states, communities, group aggregates
    • Meso: cohorts
    • Micro: individuals, families/households
  • Demographers use defined populations and representative, probability samples to be able to generalize results to that population.
